Interesting... Diane's personality here seems a bit more "proper".
The greatest evil is apathy, for it perpetuates all others.

DragonmasterDon: Have you heard the story of theunknownmarine?
I thought not.
It's not a story people in Mature Discussion would tell you.

>>>>Interesting... Diane's personality here seems a bit more "proper".

Umm, maybe it's just me but I don't notice that much a difference. ^^;
Maybe it's in the way of saying things?
Meaning-wise, it more or less the same.

Battle 9 - The quarry :

Dark Priest:
Master, we have found it!

Master Mage-sama...

Master Mage:
The Laser Eye! At last!

Is that so, the Laser Eye
carrying out (!) ended?
Good, (it was) well done.

According to the yahoo Japanese dictionary,
"hakobidasu", to take out something to outside by transport.

This is the end of that
cursed Shining Force!

... fufufu fufufufufu!
With this, it is the consistent (?)
end of the Shining Force!

I am not 100% sure of the translation of "ikkan".
I went with "consistent".
Maybe "the end of all of the Shining Force"
would be more accurate.

Get rid of those men from
Bustoke. They are of no
further use to us.

After that/later, let's bury
in a (any?) hole the men of Basto-k!
Those guys don't have any more usefulness!

I am not 100% sure of how to translate "nidemo"
in the second sentence but it should be more or less this.
"-te oke" and "sorekara" together seems to imply
that the burying will be done in a near future,
as soon as other bussiness will be took care of.
Looks like the Shining Force arrived about time.

Skeleton:
Alert! Intruders!

GIGII! GIGIGII!!

Master Mage:
What? The Shining Force!

What! When someone is having fun,
shut up/be quiet!!

He's lucky to have a skeleton sentry. :p

He step back and say :

Stop them! We must have time
to remove the Laser Eye!

!? Shi Shining Force!
W why in this place?
...yeaah, in any case, let's ambush (!) them!

According to the yahoo Japanese dictionary, more or less,
"mukaeutsu", battling by waiting and receiving
an opponent that is closing in."
Something like that.
And IIRC, in that battle the computer play a defensive battle
instead of rushing in.

When the Master Mage is defeated, he will say :
You think you've won, but
you've failed. The Laser Eye
is ours now!

Imp impossible... but
if we only had the Laser Eye/even with just the Laser Eye...

"Baka" means "stupid/foolish" and so on
but used in that context it also means "impossible/no way",
maybe in a "How could it be? That's too dumb!" sense. :p
The last sentence is incomplete.
I am not sure if he say that if they still had the Laser Eye,
they would have won the battle here
or if is saying that in the end, just by having the Laser Eye,
victory is assured to them in the end.
That being said, maybe it is meant to be ambiguous here.

Then Nova say :
Max, the Moon Stone
lies inside the cavern.

Max-dono, the moonlight stone
is in the inside of the cavern!

*****************************************
That's it for the carry.
Next time, it will be Basto-k again
which will be a bit lo0nger this time
now that the men have came back. :p

This feels like it should be

"With this, it is surely the
end of the Shining Force!"
Knowing is only half the battle.

Ah, so that further explains why the woman says nothing about Tao. I guess I overlooked that in Siel's translation.

Mew seeker seems to have disappeared again, so I redid what I had translated for chapter 4 and finished it.

As usual, I'm basing this translation on Mew seeker's script, which seems to have a few typos that I can't always figure out. There are also parts that I don't understand, whether or not there were typos.

Since my translation and the script are separated, unlike how Mew seeker posts them, perhaps opening two windows to view them could help compare them.

I am not so sure. The GBA version is different, partly because it's a remake.
Max talk in it, some stuff was added and maybe other removed.
What of the dialogue choices that might have been added or removed.
The original U.S. version is closer but it's still programming-wise
an expansion of the original Japanese version.
Personally, I believe it would be best to change the text in the Japanese version.

No pressure, guys! X D

Anyway, here is the start of chapter 3.

*****************************************
Chapter 3
Secret Weapon of Runefaust

Chapter 3
Runefaust's Secret weapon
*****************************************

The Shining Force arrived in
Bustoke, a town built into a
mountainside.

Max-tachi
came up to Basto-k.
In this town made
clear-opened (?) in an inaccessible mountain,
the figures of men were surprisingly
not at all to be seen...
"clear opened" is a bit litteral.
I wasn't sure how to write it. ^^;;;
My dictionary program say about it "clearing (land), excavating".
They made a place for the town in the mountain.

Sign at the town entrance :
Beware of falling rocks!

"Beware of falling rocks"

Kid at the town entrance :
I miss my Daddy! When's
he coming back?

sob sob
Where did daddy went?
sob sob
Runefaust is so evil they make people cry. :p

Woman in the first room from the left :
Please rescue my husband from
the quarry. You're our only
hope!

Runefaust is awful/cruel!
The men capable of work were all
took in against their will!

Bookcase near her :
How to fly,
Up and away,
and manymore books.

"How to be flying in the sky?"
"The fascinating sky"
There are various books here.

Woman in the second room from the left :
My father was taken away to
the quarry, too. Please bring
him back!

My father too was took along
in the carry.
Please, I ask you to help him!

Bookcase to her rigth :
Life on a Cliff,
High-Altitude Cookbook,
and many more books.

"Living on the top of a cliff"
"Today's/fun/interesting cooking"
There are various books here.
"kyou" is a word that could be translated by a lot of thing.
Those are the most likely meanings imho.
Pick the meaning you like the most here. :p
It would have been easier to translate
if a kanji was used in the text instead.

Bookcase above her :
Dragonia- Land of Dragons,
Knights First, Archers to the
Rear, and many more books.

"Dragon country Dragonia"
"Bow in the back Knight in front"
There are various books here.

Left merchant in the third room from the left :
Hello there and welcome to
our Weapon Shop. How can we
help you?

Welcome! To gather/get all the weapons
of Basto-k (come) to this shop only, really!
Well, is there a weapon you would like?

Middle merchant in the third room from the left :
Look around and buy anything
you like.

We are persons from Rindorindo.
for the sake of Max-sama
we put up a shop in this country too.
Would there be something useful,
please quickly take/carry it rappidly/continually/withouth hesitating.
Of course, we'll receive/take money (in exchange) though.
Aww, they want money? :(
Anyway, if you think about it, wouldn't be of those guys,
there wouldn't be any shop in chapter 3. X D
It's nice to get help from Rindorindo. ^^

Rigth merchant in the third room from the left :
Hi! You'll need lots of items
for you journey. See anything
you want?

Welcome! Should you be travelling,
various tools are necessary.
Well, is there a tool you would like?

Old man in the fourth room from the left :
I am a master alchemist. I
can make anything! Can I help
you?

40 years makings medicine!
I am Sutetora the expert at making
medicine! ...Is there something/What's your bussiness? (?)
The last part should be something like that. ^^;

If you say no :
But I need your help!

Is that so, that you don't have any bussiness in that (this) place.
In that place (here?) you must have a bussiness.
I'm not sure if "that place" or "here" is better. ^^;
Basically, if you say "No", his reaction is
"Really? I think that if you came here, you came for a reason."
He find a "no" hard to believe.

If you say yes :

First you must help me.
That part doesn't have a Japanese equivalent.

In both case, he then say :

ちょっと まて! そういえば
こっちにも ようじがあったんじゃ

Wait a little! Now that you mention it ,
I too had a bussiness in that place.
And that's the reason : the Japanese answer happens
as a result of talking about bussiness,
which reminds Sutetora of his own bussiness.
That part doesn't have a U.S. equivalent.
For some reason, the conversation flow differently in each version

To cure Zylo, I need to make
Lunar Dew. But to do that,
I need Moon Stone!
You must go to the quarry,
find Moon Stone, and
bring it back to me!

If there was/I had the medicine called the moon drop,
to restrain Zappa-sama
beast heart would be simple
as it have conveniently a single ingredient.
It would be a sparkling/glittering stone
called by the name of Moonlight Stone...
But that where it is...
Wouldn't it be somehow
the carry?
Moon drop, like in other video games. : )
Also, drop as in "drop of water".

Left bookcase in his room :
There are many books in
strange languages.

"My/Our narrow but enjoyable house(s?)"
"Mathematics 1"
There are various books here.
Maths are too hard for the U.S. version. :shifty:
Then again, more seriously maybe they had to do this change
as a result of changing the dialogu flow,
as the next bit is the same than here in the U.S. version.

Middle bookcase in his room :
There are many books in
strange languages.

"Shidak"
"Shining Spirit"
There are various books here.
"Shidak" as in "Shining and the Darkness".
Thanks to Google for that one.
Maybe Shining Spirit is a reference to Shining games too?

Girl blocking the way to the rigth :
Don't go this way! You'll be
forced to work in the quarry
with everyone else.

It's no good/useless going that way!
This way is being connected
to the quarry.
Do you want to be made working
against your will for Runefaust too?

After saying yes to Diane's mother, she will have moved out of the way
and will say :
Please be careful. Those
Runefaust monsters are
deadly!

You are going to be helping everyone
(by) going into the carry, aren't you?
Please be careful.

Woman in the room below to the south east :
My husband was taken away in
the middle of building our
house. It's only half done!

While the house was being builded,
the master/my husband has been borrowed along...
I am being cramped and worrying.
"Borrow" is probably not the best word
but that's the big idea.

Woman in blue above outside :
Our men were taken away to
work in the quarry. All but
Zylo, who's crazy.

The men have all been
took along in the carry.
Already/soon Basto-k is done for/over.
Zappa-sama body condition
have been said to be bad too...
Ahh, I wonder what I should do...
About the fifth line, I'm not 100% sure that
"have been said" is the proper translation of "toiu shi"
but it should be more or less that.

Woman above outside blocking the exit :
Please don't go this way.
They'll punish me for letting
you through.

By order of the opponent army,
to let (you?) pass cannot be (allowed).
Would you pass, I would be punished.

Headquarters symbol :
Headquarters

"Headquarters"

Priest :
Welcome, Max!
I've been expecting you.
How can I help you
and the Shining Force?

Stray lambs!
You have done well (?) to come in my church.
In the name of God and the light, your
wishes shall be granted!

***************************************************

That's it for today. ^^

I was just thinking with the difficulty editing text in the other games it might be easier from a different developer, if the genesis is easier to edit then that should be the one used.

Max's text, I figured could just be turned to ... like the main characters in SFIII

I haven't noticed anything important that was removed, but the additions may pose an issue, not sure how to incorperate that into the original story.

anyhow it does not really matter to me it would be awesome to play it with the intended story regardless of the format in my opinion, I look forward to it either way.

Holy cow, Koron got a ton of more dialogue. The info about how she stays in power is interesting and amusing as well.

Interesting addition to Earnest's plans. The guard telling you about Earnest and the cerebrus is a nice touch, too. I like the official English version of Domingo's dialogue better, though.

Chapter 5:
This chapter seems to be shorter than the previous chapter, so the translation and the original scripts should be able to fit in a single post (only slightly above 30000 characters this time). Edit: It looked fine when I tried to preview the post. I guess I'll need to split them up again.

Woah, interesting stuff. Mae, Ken, Vankar, Gort, and Adam's HQ quotes really show more of their personalities. Khris's not in party quote is kind of funny, too... I wonder how much truth there is to her hypothesis.
