Actually, yes. That is my intention. I have many months of free time right now and before it is over I would love to play through a properly translated version of shining force 1. Starting this sunday i will start compiling all the information here and start working on it.

Actually I already did that. Only it's in portuguese. :)

I always wondered why nobody came here to make the english version of it.
Hopefully it will now be done!

That just had to be the most hours i spent stareing at the computer screen reading/cuting/pasting text ive done in my entire life lol and that amounted to about 1% of the work i need to do LOL

I have a feeling that once you upload the translation patch a lot of people will use this as the base for thier hack, well this and rubixcuber's refix patch.

It will be awhile before that will happen. There is still a lot of work to be done. For one I do not have the full japanese script and do not know for 100% certainty everything was translated so I will have to personally go over everything to make sure. Then, translate those lines of text. Also, the text that has been done by mewseeker and siel still have some untranslated parts and it seems they are MIA for the time being. I would like to make the script in a 3 column format for shiningforcecentral that has been wanted by members but never been done. Also, I have to go over the translated text and edit it and anything else I think of along the way. Once I finish compiling the text that has been done in this topic i am going to start a new one because I will need the first post for my progress to be shown and my posts for help if need be.

There should be a link to the script used, towards the beginning of the thread, I think. I recall seeing the site it was posted on.

I could be very well be wrong but I've gone over this thread several times and I have not seen a link to any place having the japanese text of the game. I have even tried searching google and yahoo for it with no success. It certainly would not be too hard to miss with the mass amounts of text that has been posted in this thread lol

edit: i know at some point someone (idk if they completed or just started) did the 3 column text layout but that link no longer works and ive found many of the links used throughout the posts are no longer active since this topic is several years old

Ah, that's probably the one I was thinking of, then.

No problems, I have an idea on what to do anyways. As it looks they did most of it so there shouldnt be much left out and its a breeze to go through the game on an emulator when I can level to 99 in about 10 attacks lol

I'm assuming you're going to use ASM hacking to make the dialogues allow for enough characters? I suggest you make sure that each line is properly edited and corrected before putting it in so that you don't have to do extra work later to edit it. Are you going to upload the translated script before or after inserting it into the ROM? I would recommend the former, to let us see the lines and help you double-check them, as many times, Japanese lines tend to be misinterpreted when translated by only one or two people.
Anyway, good luck with that!

Sorry to necro this thread, but I figured there may be folks who have it subscribed who may be interested in this:

Dr. Doom mentioned last year that he'd be starting a thread to compile these retranslations and eventually maybe produce a script patch. That thread appears to be here, but it looks like it fizzled after a month.

So, I'm giving it another go. So far I've built a spreadsheet of all of Mew seeker's retranslations of the introduction and chapter 1, along with my attempt to clean up the text and make it fit nicely into the dialog boxes in game. My new thread for that project is here: Improved SF1 Retranslation.

I've also used SF1Edit to install my new script into the ROM, so I've playtested everything I posted so far. Please post in that thread with any feedback or suggestions!
