SF1, 2 & SITD to support mods

Postby Ashley » Wed Apr 20 2016 9:40pm

This sounds pretty cool for those of you with a PC. Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub on Steam will be updated so you can legally share mods for all its games, which includes Shining Force 1, 2 and Shining in the Darkness.

EDIT: I intended to post this in ATS but was half asleep. Sorry.

I was just about to post this, this is awesome. I'm shocked Sega is actually doing this its so against what the company normally does.

That's great!
Maybe Sega is starting to notice that respecting the fans is the key to obtain their respect and achieve true success.

Thats interesting and all but...

From a modding perspective, just "allowing rom hacks on Steam", while a cool move, doesn't do jack if thats all it is. We're already doing rom hacks, and rom hacks are what hacks are: stupidly hard to do, and ultimately very limiting.

If thats all it is, then I don't see why this is something to care about? Nothing is actually going to change at all.

It will be interesting what Sega fans on Steam will come up with, and which game will get the most modifications.

I won't make easier to make mods, but it will make a lot easier to spread and to discover new mods.

Its kind of neat to see Sega doing this

I've gone ahead and posted up my Shining Force Playable Jogurt Mod and my Shining Force II No Centaur Mod to steam. It was actually rather easy to do.

SF: Jogurt Mod
SF2: No Centaur Mod

I'm hoping the Solo run mods for SF1 and 2 get uploaded onto it. I can't remember who made them, but make it so!

Heh, how did you do this?

I fully know how to make hacks but how do you upload them? There's this SEGA workshop tool to upload a mod but who knows what format its asking for, and I can't find any instructions.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. Its .bin files you're uploading, and you need to write no descriptions when uploading otherwise it says invalid character.

I've made some tests and included my Hard Mode mod, my Hard Mode - All Chars mod.

And also the vanilla game with All Chars. (All Chars = start the game with every member of the Force)
