Boost Spell Glitch

A weird glitch I always forget about in this game, until it happens again, is how sometimes after empowering somebody with the Power Ring (and I'm sure Boost magic as well), the effect sometimes seems to linger a turn or two after the enchanted target's strength has returned to normal. I was wondering if anybody happens to know the cause of this glitch.

The game doesn't bother updating combatant stats unless they're on the receiving end of an action (e.g. be attacked or receive healing), they level up, their status screen is opened, or they change equipment. Boost's effect therefore effectively lingers past its intended duration and can do so indefinitely as long as the above triggers are avoided.

Definitely weird, but all right. Thanks. I had my own theories in the past, but was never able to confirm.

As somebody who hates exploiting glitches even by mistake, I would definitely use that patch if I were one to use emulation in general. Regardless, I certainly appreciate its existence.

The bug almost seems helpful lmao, I remember hearing about this a while back and never knew the reason. Still interesting though.

It indeed is helpful, and I'm sure there are those out there who love to abuse it. Maybe giving it to an archer who's not likely to be attacked, and so can retain the boost for the entire battle. Probably also helps with solo runs for one-shotting enemies.

As for myself though, I'm not a fan of glitches being in my favor, because they wind up making the game easier than it was meant to be, and I rather the game be experienced as the developers intended, rather than how it portrays itself through a glitch. Fortunately, knowing how it works, it should be simple enough to prevent in the future; unless of course I forget about it again.
